Unless stated otherwise in your proposal, international flights, meals and drinks, personal travel insurance, fuel, parking, road tunnel fees, optional attraction entrance fees, and any vehicle mileage charges are not included. We recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for travel between June and August, when popular accommodations, rental vehicles, guides, and activities can fill quickly. Planning 9 to 12 months ahead gives you the widest choice, but shorter-notice journeys may still be possible. Contact us and we will check the best available options for your dates.

A 10% non-refundable deposit or full payment is required to confirm your booking. This allows us to secure the accommodations, transportation, activities, guides, and other services included in your personalized Iceland itinerary, whether you are traveling on a self-drive adventure or a private guided tour.

The remaining balance is due 28 days before your arrival in Iceland. If your tour is booked less than 28 days before arrival, full payment is required at the time of booking.

Payments are made through a secure payment service. Major credit and debit cards are accepted, and bank transfer options may also be available depending on the booking date and payment arrangements. Your payment link will show the methods available for your booking.

Our proposals are typically quoted in US dollars (USD), making it easy for many of our North American travelers to understand the cost of their trip.

Prices are based on local costs in Iceland and converted using current exchange rates at the time the proposal is prepared. Once your booking has been confirmed by Vala Adventure, your agreed price is guaranteed unless otherwise stated.

Depending on your payment method and location, additional currency options may also be available during the payment process.

Yes. If you would like to make changes to your booking, please send your request to us in writing as soon as possible. Changes to travel dates, accommodation, activities, traveler numbers, or other services are subject to availability and may result in additional costs, supplier fees, or cancellation charges.

Any modification is only considered confirmed once it has been acknowledged and agreed to by Vala Adventure in writing.

If you need to cancel your trip, cancellations must be submitted in writing to info@valaadventure.is.

Cancellations made more than 28 days before arrival receive a full refund minus the 10% non-refundable deposit. Cancellations made 14 to 28 days before arrival receive a 75% refund, while cancellations made 4 to 13 days before arrival receive a 50% refund. No refund applies for cancellations made less than 4 days before arrival or in the case of a no-show.

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance. Your policy should cover trip cancellation, interruption, flight disruption, medical emergencies, personal belongings, and additional expenses caused by unexpected events. Please check the coverage and exclusions carefully before traveling.

The Northern Lights can be seen in Iceland from late August through April, when the nights are dark. Sightings depend on solar activity, cloud cover, and weather conditions, so they can never be guaranteed.

To maximize your chances of seeing the aurora, we recommend spending several nights in Iceland and remaining flexible with your travel plans.

Yes. Travelers from the United States and Canada can normally drive in Iceland using a valid driver's license written in English and Roman characters. An International Driving Permit is generally not required. The license must be valid for the vehicle being rented, and drivers must meet the rental company's age and licensing requirements.

Most US and Canadian visitors do not need an International Driving Permit if their valid license is written in English using Roman characters. If a license does not meet those requirements, an International Driving Permit or official translation may be required.

People drive on the right-hand side of the road in Iceland, and rental vehicles have the steering wheel on the left. For travelers from the United States and Canada, the driving setup will feel familiar and easy to adapt to.

Unless road signs state otherwise, general speed limits are 50 km/h in populated areas, 80 km/h on rural gravel roads, and 90 km/h on paved rural roads. Drivers should always adjust their speed to the weather, road surface, visibility, and local signs.

F-roads are mountain roads leading into Iceland’s Highlands and other remote areas. They can be rough, unpaved, and may include unbridged river crossings. They are normally accessible only during part of the summer and require a suitable 4x4 vehicle approved by the rental company.

No. Regular two-wheel-drive rental cars are not permitted on F-roads. You must use a suitable 4x4 that is specifically approved for the intended road. Some Highland routes and river crossings may still require greater experience or a guided vehicle, even with a 4x4.

No. Driving away from marked roads or tracks is illegal because it can cause lasting damage to Iceland’s fragile landscapes. F-roads are recognized roads and should not be confused with off-road driving.

The Ring Road and many main routes are paved, but travelers will also encounter gravel roads in rural areas. F-roads and many Highland routes are unpaved. Your Vala Adventure itinerary will be planned according to the route and type of vehicle included.

Fuel prices change regularly and vary slightly between service stations. Fuel is generally more expensive than in the United States or Canada, so it should be included in your travel budget. Your total fuel cost will depend on the vehicle, route, and distance traveled.

Yes. Gas stations are available in towns and along the main travel routes. They are less frequent in remote areas, so it is sensible to refuel before long rural stretches and not wait until the tank is almost empty.

Electric vehicles can work well on many popular routes, provided that charging stops are built into the itinerary. The accommodations included in your itinerary are selected based on your preferences, travel style, and desired comfort level. Yes. Vala Adventure normally books rooms with private bathroom facilities for our clients. If an exceptional property or remote location offers different arrangements, this will be clearly explained before booking.

Most Icelandic hotels do not have air conditioning because summers are generally mild. Rooms are commonly ventilated by opening a window, and buildings are designed primarily for Iceland’s cooler climate.

Breakfast is normally included in the accommodations booked by Vala Adventure. Some self-catering properties may not offer breakfast, and we will clearly note this in your itinerary or proposal.
