Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival Reykjavík. The drive from Keflavik airport into Iceland‘s capital city takes you straight into Iceland's trademark volcanic landscapes. You‘ll visit The Bridge Between Continents, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates are drifting apart. Afterwards a trip to Brimketill Lava Pool will let you experience how the power of Atlantic waves have formed a natural pool in the rocks by way of marine erosion. After a trip to witness geothermal activity firsthand at steaming vents and bubbling mud pots in Krísuvík, you‘ll finish the day in Reykjavík with a Food Walk Tour full of culture and Nordic charm.
Day 2 - Golden Circle. Take a stroll through history at Thingvellir, the site of the world‘s oldest parliament. Have your first taste of the Icelandic countryside as you make your way over to the explosive hot spring at Geysir before visiting your introduction to Iceland‘s waterfalls, the magnificent Gullfoss. The only way to top the view is to make another stop at Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the falls before strolling down to see the hidden gem Gljúfrabúi.
Day 3 - South Coast. Start the day with a rush from the mist and power of Skógafoss waterfall. Next you‘ll head off to view the dramatic cliffs at Dyrhólaey and iconic black sand beach at Reynisfjara. Fjarðrárgljúfur is next up, a gorge carved by glacial waters like something out of a fairytale. Wind down the day at Kirkjubæjarlaustur, a peaceful village with a monastic history.
Day 4 - Skaftafell & Glacier Lagoon. Get ready to commune with the glacier on your hike across ice and rugged peaks in Skaftafell. Head over to Fjallsárlón and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoons to witness ice giants floating silently out to sea. Walk along the Diamond Beach and get in touch with the sparkling ice fragments strewn across black volcanic sand.
Day 5 - Eastfjords. Visit the quaint fishing village Höfn before you drive quite literally through a mountain as the tunnel Almannaskarð takes you to the scenic Eastfjords. Stop at Stokksnes and Hvalnesviti lighthouse before continuing alongside the fjords with stops in charming fishing towns like Djúpivogur before heading to Egilsstaðir, the capital of east Iceland.
Day 6 - Dettifoss & Lake Mývatn. Stunning, striking, epic basalt columns and turquoise water await you in the Stuðlagil canyon. Europe‘s most powerful waterfall Dettifoss is up next before a visit to the geothermal marvels Hverarönd and Víti crater. Round out the day exploring the lava fields of Dimmuborgir beside Mývatn lake, a unique and magnificent body of water amongst lava fields rich with birdlife and volcanic landscapes.
Day 7 - Húsavík & Akureyri. En route this morning is a spectacular stop at Goðafoss, the divine „Waterfall of the Gods“. Enjoy the incredible scenic drive over to Akureyri, the capital of the North. Even in our cities nature is always within reach and a walk in the Botanical Gardens is a perfect precursor to an relaxing soak in the hot nature baths at the Forest Lagoon.
Day 8 - Skagafjörður & Hvitserkur. Your drive continues through the northern farmlands and hidden gems of Skagafjörður where you can check out the river canyons at Kolugljúfur, the sea stack Hvítserkur and the mysterious hills of Vatnsdalshólar. For more action the lava fields and crater hikes up the volcanic crater Grábrók and the waterfall Glanni in Borgarfjörður are adventure options with fantastic views.
Day 9 - Return to Reykjavík. It‘s time to top off the waterfall visits at the magical lava waterfall Hraunfossar. Follow it up with a visit to the hot spring Deildartunguhver for a reminder of the island‘s natural power before continuing on. Reykholt houses deep historical significance to Iceland‘s Sagas and Borgarnes is a beautiful coastal town that serves as the gateway back to the capital.
Spend the evening unwinding, it‘s a great opportunity to review photos and reflect.
